It was the time of the year in August 2013 for the Festival of Cairns which brought this tropical city much fun and frivolity for a week.
As a precursor to this Annual event there is a Grand Parade in which all the groups and clubs in Cairns are given the opportunity to get gaily adorned and strut their stuff along the Esplanade.
The Cairns Rock 'n' Roll Club wanted to promote that they would be 25 years old in 2014 and contacted Tricia and Max Lincoln with a view to including a Moke as part of their show.
Fortunately Tricia's Moke named 'Arabella' (MOK 212) had just finished going through a restoration transformation that was absolutely brilliant in more ways than one as the photos show.
Contestants in the parade included vehicles, horses, dogs and people and before the parade these congregated in a park not far from the start.
Participants were asked to be in the Park by 2:00p.m. even though the parade did not get underway until 5:30p.m. And this was not too great a length of time as preparations were very complex.
The brightly coloured paper flowers for 'Arabella' were first attached to pieces of cloth and these were then strategically tied on with string in unobtrusive locations.
The Moke's Cd player belted out the Rock 'n' Roll sounds of Bill Haley and the Comets, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chubby Checker and the like and the Rock 'n' Rollers danced alongside during the parade.
Though dwarfed by some of the other entrants the Moke and the Rock 'n' Rollers were able to hold their own and were much cheered by the vast crowd that lined the route and especially loved by the children.
